Tomorrow is the day when Americans will be celebrating Independence with fireworks, food and fun. As a web designer I love technology, but as a mother and grandmother, I urge all of you to use safety measures if you or your children are going to handle fireworks.
Technology advances are not restricted to computers and televisions, today’s cutting edge technology includes the ability of fireworks. This year’s fireworks can display shapes, different colors, words and even designs. Don’t let fascination with these advances dull your vigilance toward safety measures around fireworks.
Vote for Iowa Attractions as an “8th Wonder”
Four Iowa attractions are finalists for Virtual Tourist’s 8th Wonder of the World contest. You can vote for your favorite through September 30.
Iowa finalists include the Fenelon Place Elevator in Dubuque, the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend, the Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott and the Pappajohn Sculpture Garden in Des Moines.
While on my first cross-country book tour last year, I discovered GasBuddy.com and have been using not only it’s website, but the ipad and iphone application every since. The GasBuddy app lets you type in the city, state or zip code to “find gas” nearby, using crowd-sourced updates to keep the pricing current (each price shows how recent the update is in minutes, hours or days). You can filter by gas type (regular, midgrade, premium, diesel) as well as distance/price.
As my husband and I prepare for my next cross-country book tour this winter, GasBuddy will be one of the apps we can’t live without as it has already helped save hundreds of dollars on book tour gasoline expenses.
